Rule Of 7

June 30, 2016

Unforeseen circumstances put me a little behind for Thursday's Techniques, but on the upside it's still Thursday!!! Technically not late!!! With that being said.........thank you for the inquiries as to where is this week's techniques.

Today is for cardmakers AND scrapbookers!! It's using a 12"x12" cardstock to its fullest making 5"x7" frames or backgrounds for cards. I will show you how to cut the cardstock to its fullest potential and then show you some examples.

All that will be left is the middle square

Scrapbookers:

with 4x6 picture added the wider light blue boarder, the blue stands out in the sweater
You also can trim down a 5x7 picture and have 1/4" border around like this:
This is a trimmed 5x7 photo with the size base and matte as the picture above.

Don't forget to take horizontal as well as vertical pictures. A mix of pictures is attractive on layouts. Dazzles, doodles, etc can also be added to wider light blue matte for interest!!

 Cardmakers:
Here are a couple of samples of 5x7 cards.

These cards show how you can use printed cardstock/paper for the matte.

When I am cutting the matte, usually 6 3/4 x 4 3/4, I still cut the rule of 7 and just cut a 1/4" off top or bottom and also 1/4" either side.  Especially when you are making several 5x7 cards, get them cut and use later!!
